Field observations & seasonality
Unlike wildlife parks where animals are radio-collared or located via vehicle convoys, Bardia remains completely wild. Here are the realistic figures documented by our native trackers over the past seasons.
Pre-monsoon dry heat (35°C–40°C). Grasses are naturally low. Tigers regularly spend hours soaking in the river channels (Karnali, Geruwa, Babai) and waterholes to cool down.
Pleasant daytime temperatures (20°C–25°C), optimal for walking. Water is abundant throughout the forest, spreading wildlife movements. Excellent for rhinos, wild elephants, and birds.
Heavy rainfalls, lush dense undergrowth, and swollen rivers. Tracking on foot is difficult and restricted to select buffer zones. Season not advised for tiger focus.
Total silence
A combustion engine can be heard over a kilometer away, alerting cats early. Walking allows discreet positioning without disrupting natural behaviors.
Access to secluded riverbanks
Jeeps are confined to marked dirt tracks. On foot, trackers can navigate deep river channels, gravel bars, and hidden watering spots where tigers rest.
Pugmarks and alarm calls
Trackers read fresh night pugmarks in the sand and listen to langur monkeys and spotted deer alarm vocalizations, directly indicating the predator's heading.
